The huge amount of plastic debris floating in the North Pacific Ocean has received an increase in media attention over the last few years. On Friday, October 1, from 7:30 – 9 p.m. in CMA’s John M. Olguin Auditorium as Charles Moore, authoritative researcher of the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch,” Shelly Moore (Southern California Coastal Water Research Project), Christina Boerger and Gwen Lattin (both Research Biologists, Algalita Marine Research Foundation) talk about their ongoing research on plastics in the ocean along the Southern California coast and the Northern Pacific Gyre. Topics will include results of studies looking at fish ingestion of plastics and comparing results of the 2009 Northern Pacific Gyre voyage to original sampling locations in 1999.

This is a free lecture, but space is limited. To reserve your seat(s), call the Aquarium at 310-548-7562.
