Whalewatch Volunteers Needed

The Cabrillo Whalewatch program is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to act as naturalists on whale watching trips and provides whale lectures at schools. Beginning Tuesday, October 6, 2009, Whalewatch training classes will be given in the John M. Olguin Auditorium at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. Classes will be held every Tuesday from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. through the end of March. Five New K-9 Teams Join Fish and Game Patrol

Five police service dogs and their warden handlers have graduated from the Department of Fish and Games (DFG) K-9 Academy this summer. Volunteer Docents Needed at Cabrillo Aquarium

Applications are now being accepted for the following volunteer opportunity at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is seeking volunteers to educate school children about our local ocean environment via docent-led school tours of their exhibit hall, aquarium, and outdoor classroom. Following 10 weeks of training, docents will choose one morning per week to provide tours during the school year. Two San Diego Lobster Poachers Sentenced to Jail Time

Two individuals recently arrested for lobster poaching in the San Diego area have been sentenced to jail time. The arrests, though unrelated, both involved repeat offenders —one of whom gained international media attention in 2007 for attempting to hide six poached lobsters in his pants. Binh Q. Poachers Threaten Monterey’s Endangered Black Abalone

California game wardens recently made two new arrests in a series of black abalone poaching cases in Monterey County. The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) arrested Jerry Jones, 37, of Monterey, and Terry Callahan, 47, of Seaside on May 13 after being found in possession of 51 black abalone from Point Lobos State Park.
